Biography
for Captain
Jerome Crandall-Hollick
Captain
Jerome Crandall Hollick moved to the Hudson Valley in 1995 to attend
Bard College. After graduating Bard Jerome taught sailing for three
years in Boston Harbor first at Courageous Sailing Center and then at
Boston Sailing Center. He loved the area so much he came back three
years after graduating and decided to turn his passion for sailing into
something positive for his local community by starting tivoli
sailing company.
He
started sailing at age eleven after being given his first boat "Arrow"
by his grandfather Paul Crandall, a long time sailor as well as civil
and naval architect who owned Crandall Dry Dock Engineers located in
Cambridge, Dedham and now Chelsea, Mass.

His
grandfather taught him the technical skills of sailing while his father
Julian Crandall Hollick, an award winning radio journalist, inspired
him to sail with the "Swallows and Amazons" series of books
by Aurther Ransom.
Originally
self taught on Lake Wequaquet on Cape Cod, Jerome honed his sailing
skills racing at Hyannis Port Yacht club for three years, earning many
racing victories in the Beetlecat class and being awarded the Dudley
S. Richards Trophy for excellence in junior sailing.
While
at Bard he repaired Santa Fe Resturaunt owner David Weiss's catamaran
and sailed on the Hudson out of Tivoli and Germantown for seven years,
learning every nook and cranny from Rhinecliff to Hudson. The river
kept calling him back however, often making weekend trips to the Hudson
Valley to sail his beloved river with his friends. |
The
same year that Captain Jerome started Tivoli Sailing company, his father
Julian completed and broadcast his latest six-part NPR radio series
"Ganga" about his travels down the Ganges
River in India.
Jerome's
mother Martine Crandall is probably the person most responsible for
Tivoli Sailing Company. She took Jerome sailing at nine months, helping arrange the purchase of Jerome's first boat, enrolled him in sailing
camp, waking at the crack of dawn to take him to regattas, taught him
how to drive a car, ensuring he had a proper education, helped develop
this web site, providing crucial financial backing, as well as sharing
her wealth of business knowledge. If it wasn't for her neither her son
or husband would have been nearly as successful. Thanks Mom.

"Sailing is my escape, my way to let go
of stress and not have to worry about anything but the wind, sun and
water. This section of the Hudson River is especially beautiful
with the Catskill Mountains as a backdrop, as well as all of the historic
and beautiful mansions that line the river on both banks. I invite
you to come and experience the beauty and serenity of the Hudson Valley
from one of its most important and underutilized resources, The River."
