Students
will be taught the basics of sailing as well as river ecology,
seamanship, navigation, ropemanship, chart reading, and care
and cleaning of the boat. All students must be able to swim
100 yards on their own and must bring their own sunscreen.
Pick up and drop off will be in Tivoli. Students should bring
their own Type 3 life vest and be prepared to have fun! The
course will be led by licensed Captain Jerome Crandall Hollick
and he will be assisted by his crew Michelle Farish, who normally
works full time as a special ed teacher. The primary goal
of this course is to get children of the area excited about
one of its greatest resources, while teaching them valuabe
skills that can be transferred to other parts of life. Most
importantly we want to open up the kids' minds to the possibilities
for adventure and recreation in their own back yard. |
